DTF vs UV DTF: Which Transfer Do You Need?

Both products come off a printer as full-color film with your design on it, which is why people mix them up. They are made for completely different jobs. The short version: DTF goes on fabric with a heat press; UV DTF sticks to hard surfaces with no heat at all.

Choose DTF when

  • The item is fabric: cotton, polyester, blends, fleece, canvas, performance wear.
  • You want a soft print that moves with the garment and survives the wash.
  • You are decorating team shirts, staff uniforms, event tees or merch in volume.

Order one design at a time with DTF Transfers by Size, or pack many designs on one film with the DTF Gang Sheet Builder (22 in wide, priced by length).

Choose UV DTF when

  • The surface is hard and smooth: stainless steel, glass, ceramic, acrylic, coated metal, sealed wood.
  • You do not own a heat press, or the item cannot take heat.
  • You need a logo on dozens of tumblers, candles, jars or bottles and want every one to look identical.

Order with UV DTF Transfers by Size, the UV DTF Gang Sheet Builder or pre-sized cup wraps.

Can I use UV DTF on a shirt, or DTF on a tumbler?

No to both. UV DTF has no heat-activated adhesive and will crack and peel off fabric. DTF needs heat and pressure and will not bond to glass or metal. If you have both jobs, order both; they are separate products and ship together.

By size or gang sheet?

  • By size is simplest when you have a few designs and know the exact size and quantity of each. You get a per-piece price instantly.
  • Gang sheet is cheapest when you have many designs or many copies: you fill a 22-inch-wide sheet yourself and pay by the inch of length.

Either way there is no minimum, the file requirements are the same (PNG with a transparent background, 300 DPI, not mirrored), and orders placed by 2 PM ET on a business day ship the same day from New York to anywhere in the US.
